the lowest ground.

i've learned
humility means more listening,
less talking.
humility means quiet, attentive, soft spoken.
humility means unselfishness,
thoughtfulness,
being aware of far more than yourself.
humility means forgetting yourself.
humility means more,
"I'm sorry" and "please forgive me,"
and less blame games and pointed fingers.
humility means finding every opportunity
to lift someone else up,
and removing yourself and boasting in your own abilities,
not so much of inserting your own agenda whenever possible.
humility means seeking ways to serve and
less for handouts and easy roads.
Humility means loving the least of these,
the awkward, the outcast, the one desperate for love
and a whole lot less of the glamorous, the popular, the sparklers.
get your hands dirty.
Humility is rejoicing with others
and removing jealousy and envy.
humility means less interrupting, less bragging about self,
and more asking, more pursuing.
humility means more adapting, more contouring,
and less being a stick in the mud and making one cater to yourself.
forget about yourself.
forget about your appearance.
forget about proving yourself
forget about what you know
and what you're good at
and start finding the good in others.
find beauty in unexpected places
look to affirm and strengthen
look to encourage and lift up.
Humility means giving more time
and less demands of others.
Humility means to serve
to bow, to lie low,
to go lower still,
to admit and walk in weakness,
and you will realize true strength can be found there.
Humility does not disdain the small.
in doing so, you miss the whole.
humility means being emptied
and being surprised
at how truly full we are.
head to the lowest depths,
the deeper ground,
and there will you find the the living Water.
empty of expectation,
expect nothing,
and be filled with joy.

Yes! Every single one of these is something I need to work on! Revisiting the issue of pride and asking God for more of Him and less of me.

absolutely, I write it to remind myself as well! Humility can always be more of something we strive for, you can never have too much humility or "arrive"..praying with you that Jesus can shine so bright through our small, but valued hearts!!

That stupid pride can go straight to the depths, huh? Every day is a new grace opportunity to strive for humility and holiness. Let us try to be the best at being the smallest.
