Bedtime Blueberry Smoothie
This evening my husband is away all weekend on business, so I've got the kiddos, and since this is Friday night, they usually get extra special privileges [if they have consistent good behavior throughout the day] such as staying up later than their usual bedtime, maybe a fun game or a movie, and of course popcorn to add to the festivities;)
I didn't want to get them all riled up, or wigged out on any added sugar, so I try to and steer clear of candy or too many sweets [although I am not against the occasional bowl of ice cream, or a rare and special treat] but I myself was craving something sweet, so I thought the closest thing to a huge chocolate milk shake or a bowl of ice cream would be a smoothie. Then we both win. I am not breaking any of my health food rules, and the kiddos get a sweet nutritional snack before bedtime while they watch Mickey mouse..
so without further ado, here is my simple smoothie that both my babes loved, [Norah downed hers quicker than i thought she would] and it left them full and satisfied and calm and ready to go to sleep when all was said and done.
you'll need:
1/4 cup blue berries
1 banana
2 tbs peanut butter [or almond butter]
1/4 cup uncooked oats
1 tsp honey
2 yoplait [light] yogurt cups, [i used a blueberry one and a strawberry]
3 ice cubes
blend in blender until smooth.
serve immediately.
made 3 cups.
