one hundred dollar's a night

a tiny shepherd's cottage,
white paint slapped on 1930's bricks
tucked far back behind
usual scottish civilization
green sticking to everything,
curving its way this way and that
clusters of moving wool and black eyes,
two horses grazing nearby-one white, one brown,
all inviting to explore,
smell, touch, and see.
my favorite of all our air bnb's.
the shepherdess greeted us,
tiny black bugs clinging to her shoulders,
her hands strong and weathered from
hard work on a farm,
her face like softened leather,
eyes aged and wise.
she was kind and shared of the history
giving us a real pictures of
hard shepherd and farming life
in wild, beautiful Scotland.
"it's a tooth and claw
animal kingdom"
she said solemnly.
