my boy's pink toes peeking just behind
the black chair on wheels,
him snuggled inside.
i rolled us past the rickety wooden bridge,
a large man on a bike
with his dog tied to a bright blue leash
glided just behind us,
he spoke up:
"passing you on the right!"
the dog's tongue flopped all over the edges of his
gaping mouth
as we both stared at each other briefly in
the passing.
over by one edge of the water,
there was a party of ducks socializing,
splashing and swimming
and dunking their entire auriculars
deep into the water
and their bills would pop up victoriously.
the boy pointed his tiny finger at them
in glee.
there was so much to see.
the sun shimmered over the surface of the water
as we made our way around the loop,
the pond shined with
diamonds in its hands.
the green foliage that framed the waters's edge
were emerald jewels laid gracefully
around her neck.
a flock of geese soared just above the surface,
gaining speed
and taking off into the sky
it looked as if they all had spoken ahead of time
to meet there,
and they would depart for their trip south.
together.
we walked some more,
taking the same trail that meandered
around the pond,
retracing our steps
yet this time was different.
