threat

when you say casually,
with a shooing of your hand 
you are not 
threatened by me 
you make me feel like i am scum beneath your feet 
and there is no way you have to worry about 
anyone looking at me at all, 
least of all your striking and powerful husband. 
i know you don't mean it like that-
but it would be nicer if perhaps you said
i feel safe with you. 
i can trust you with my husband 
or anyone else's 
because you are more alert than most.
you remain vigil, armor on at all times. 
that would be a kinder 
thing to say. 
but you are probably right.
i am probably not a threat to anyone
nor would i want 
to be.
