i fumbled about with opening
my black and white marbled notebook,
reaching for my brand new slick white pen
that i had been given as a souvenir
from the ever fancy Palazzo Versace,
getting myself situated comfortably
32,000 feet in the air
aboard the Emirates aircraft.
a crew member was walking past,
business in his step,
when he stopped in the middle of the aisle
right next to my seat.
i looked up,
his frame casting a shadow on my tray.
"Oh, do you need some light?"
he asked, eyeing my journal and pen.
"oh!" i responded in surprise, "sure!"
he then proceeded to lean in and press my light button,
adjusting the tiny beam of light,
casting warmth right onto my pages,
and went along on his way.
i sat there for a prolonged second,
smiling to myself,
truly touched at his small act of kindness.
the tiniest things like that,
the smallest effort to show kindness and thoughtfulness,
go the longest way.
at least in my book they do.
that flight was filled with all sorts of glamorous treats,
a whole entire row to myself to sprawl my legs and feet
[we call this economy flat lay, because you really can only get
that flat lay position in first class]
delicious plane food being offered left and right,
flying with one of my best friends right behind me
in a row of her own,
blankets and movies and snacks,
but really that brief moment when the cabin crew member
took the time to see that i needed light
and took care of it for me
even though it was well within my reach,
truly made my entire flight.
i glowed the rest of the flight...
