the pond

i was over at the pond,
the red winged black birds singing their familiar tune,
the branches of trees,
clad with buds and pops of green..
the ripples in the water waved a greeting to me
as i walked past,
 the turn in the pavement
hugging the curves of the pond..
the Lord fell in step next to me,
His arm around my shoulder,
He smiled and said,
"How are you, my lamb?"
He meets me there every time,
His presence ever so clear
like the water dancing next to me,
deep colors of greens, blues, and dark grays..
so clear and yet to vast.
As i walk, I feel the Lord touch my back,
and the weight of anxiety and fear is quieted.
I breathe in and out,
and i feel Life pulsing within me.
My heart is quieted and falls into a restful
cheery beat, as the Holy Spirit
brushes the hair from my face,
and makes His ways through the wings of trees,
under the canopy of hanging branches,
and hovers over the surface of the water.
I am not sure how He knows when I'll be there,
but He comes, quietly, softly, joyfully,
and I never walk alone.
Those walks at the pond have become my daily devotions.
My purposeful prayers,
my time alone with the Father.
He takes my hand,
He embraces me,
and we walk.
side by side.
I am left renewed, restored,
ready to take on
another day,
I am filled with hope,
and my heart sings along with the birds,
the flowers,
even the cattails have a melody,
we sing in delight and worship
to the heavenly Father,
and the joy we share as we tarry there
none other has ever
known..

In the Garden, by Deniece Williams
