i was trying to hang a plant in a 

wicker basket,

making sure the leaves weren't choked by rope, 

gently pulling them out so they might be displayed beautifully 

from my ceiling 

instead, the rope slipped from my hand 

the pot, basket, and dirt went

flying 

and the carpet became a burial plot 

for the leaves that did not survive the fall.
