An Ode to My Other Dad
When I think of
Dad English
I think of
fishing lures, Adirondack chairs,
and shiny penny loafers
that click against the floor.
I think of
that gentle, firm voice
that I've never heard once
raised in anger.
I think of my father in law
with fondness and pride,
So honored to have joined this
legacy
of English's-God the Father
clearly at the helm.
When I think of Dad English,
I think of humility, wisdom, and respect-
for these are qualities this man
continually possesses,
as well has
clearly passed them on to his sons.
I think of discounted, yet quality steak,
wine cellars, wine bottles, and well
just plain wine..
Dad reminds me of vacations, hiking,
and Rubios Fish Tacos,
as well as
laughter that flows nice and easy.
My heart swells when he takes time
to single me out,
and give me a gruff bear hug-
I know I'm loved.
When I think of my father in law,
Jonathan English,
I am so very
thankful.
