1.
i look at my dad
and how he interacts
with such an overwhelming
gentle affectionate love
with my children,
his grand children,
and i think
he was always made to be a
grandpa.

2.
i walk in to find
puzzle pieces
s c a t t e r e d
across the wooden table,
beads strung on a play dough necklace,
my mom sitting calmly
 in the middle of
the chaos of
dresses, kitchen toys and
my daughters.
and i think
she was always made to be
a grandma

3.
never a burden, always a pleasure.
they bought a VAN
for goodness sake,
to help stuff
all the grandchildren in
at once.
i know this is a rare gift.
to have parents
who take the role as
grandparent
so seriously,
so joyfully.
so eagerly.

they leave a legacy indeed.
