Before the Rain Subsides

this morning the thunder rumbled across our roof
and the rain fell out of the sky.
It woke up my son, and Daddy brought him down
to me before he left for work.
the boy in just his crunchy white diaper,
and soft, soft skin,
shimmied up next to me, as close as he possibly could,
I could feel the warmth from
his tiny small frame, and it warmed me even more
from the inside out.
it smelled of earth, wet grass, and peace
in the air,
there was nothing but the sound
of my boy's steady breathing, slowing to a crawl
once he felt safe, in the curve of my back,
and my heart that beat so faithfully.
Thanking Jesus for small moments like this
where I can represent
His safety,
His warmth,
to my tiny boy,
and all is right with the world
