Karla's Outstanding Mound Bars

Once a year at least we like to create a fun event where we get a huge group together and head to the Getty Drive In. It is the only one left in Michigan, and it happens to be in Muskegon, less than hour away from town. We caravan over there, and pack tons of tasty snacks, a grill with brotts and buns, and classic bottled drinks. It is a festive night with friends both old and new, and it's a great evening watching the big screen beneath the stars.

I like to put together some homemade goodies, movie themed ofcourse, whether that be loads of hot popped corn (I add a twist and sprinkle curry or ceyenne to add a kick) my take on the candy bars, (peanut butter bars, or 7 layer bars) and this year, my friend Karla sent the most amazing recipe my way. I LOVE mound bars and they are one of my top favorite candy bars. Karla gave me instructions on putting together a fantastic mound bar that compares to the real deal. They are delicious and easy to prepare, they were gone before the movie ended and they were requested later in the week.

Thank you Karla for sharing your scrumptious recipe and making a brown girl and her crew incredibly happy!!

You will need:

2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 cups flaked coconut
1 (12 ounce) package semisweet chocolate chips, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Combine the graham cracker crumbs, sugar and melted butter or margarine.
Mix and pat into the bottom of one 9x13 inch baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 15 minutes.
Combine the condensed milk and flaked coconut.
Spread over the crust and bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 15 minutes.
4.Spread the melted chocolate chips over the top. Let cool and cut into squares.

TIP: an easier way to melt the chocolate chips, leave oven on after taking bars out of oven. Sprinkle chocolate chips and leave on top of oven for about 10-15 minutes. They will spread like butter, and you won't have to melt the chips separately!!
