Walked into the dining room
to a sea of blank faces,
wrinkles and spectacles everywhere.
Some even mumbling,
"who is she?"
" What's a colored girl
doing here?"
they clearly don't remember
I gave 3 years of my life to them,
caring for their most basic needs..
But boy, when I bellowed out
the Old Rugged Cross
at the sturdy upright,
they joined me,
words remembered and voices hopeful.
There are some things
Alzheimer's
can't touch..
